Maher told TMZ co-founder Harvey Levin that while they “had an amazing, fun time,” their talk didn't provide the “learning moment” he wanted due to the rapper's publicly stated antisemitism.
Ye lost brand partnerships, billionaire status, and popular compassion despite his mental health issues in 2022 following his antisemitic rants.

Maher, who mockingly labeled Ye a “very charming antisemite,” said his pop cultural impact and youthful audience spread his anti-Jewish sentiments.
“The problem, I think, is that he appeals mostly — of course he's a rockstar — to young people,” Maher remarked. “They don't know much about the Middle East or Jews. … He helped nurture the concept that Israel and Jews are the worst people in the world.
Maher insisted he would not publish the interview to avoid promoting antisemitism. "I won't contribute to this, so I won't air that episode," he stated.
